An example essay
April 2026
This is what an essay page looks like on the site. The layout is deliberately plain — the same column width as the rest of the site, the same typography, the same cloud sitting quietly behind the text. The goal is for the reading experience to feel continuous with the rest of the site, not like a different room.
Paragraphs are separated by space rather than indentation, in keeping with screen reading conventions. Italics are available for emphasis. Bold isn't used in body copy by design.
A section heading looks like this
Sections are introduced with a slightly larger heading, but not dramatically so — the hierarchy is meant to be felt rather than shouted.
Block quotes are gently set off with a soft left rule and a shift to italics. Good for an epigraph or a quotation you want the reader to slow down for.
You can include lists when it makes sense:
- Lists have a small left indent and a comfortable line height.
- Items are spaced slightly apart so they read as distinct rather than crowded.
- Use them sparingly — most arguments read better as prose.
That's most of what you'll need. The essay ends here, with a back link to the writing index below.
